Fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent dies at 71

Legendary fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent died on Sunday night (June 1) at his home in Paris.

Saint Laurent, who became synonymous with the glamor of the Paris catwalk, was considered “one of the greatest figures in French fashion in the 20th century” and “the first to raise Haute Couture to the rank of an Art form by providing a global reach”.

The funeral will be held on Thursday at the Saint Roch Church in Paris. Rest in peace.

Develop Your Own Personal Style

What do fashion icons like Kate Moss, Agyness Deyn, Sienna Miller and fashion designer Stella McCartney have in common? They all have their own style. It’s logical, you’ll say - that’s exactly the reason that they’re considered “fashion icons”. Let’s think a little bit more about this.

Why do we follow and imitate “fashion icons”? What do we want from them? Does it simply amuses us to watch how they dress? Or do we want to be just like them? Perhaps we try to discover their secrets by analyzing their look in every little detail. If so, the answer won’t come as a surprise - their secret lies in the fact that they have their own personal style. So if our goal is become “like them”, all we have to do is develop our own personal style. It’s that simple! How to do that? Here are some tips:

Don’t try to copy the trends of the moment, but instead interpret them to suit your own personality. Don’t be a fashion victim!

If you haven’t discovered your own style yet, study some photos of you from when you were younger. How did you dress then? What outfits appealed to you most when you were a child? This could make you realize what you really like to wear (as opposed to what you’re influenced to wear by the fashion magazines).

Shop with your heart. When you go shopping, try to be guided by your own taste and not the taste of friends or store clerks. Choose clothing items that you instantly feel attracted to.

Mix pieces of the last collections with new pieces. It is exactly this way of mixing different clothing items that will make your outfit special and unique.

Don’t fear being different from the others!

Having your own style also means knowing how to dress tastefully. In order to develop a certain style, you require a little planning ahead. Always try to spend a little time to analyze how different pieces of your wardrobe go together. Even though you choose your outfits carefully, make them look natural (and not too studied). For example, you can wear together a pair of casual jeans with a chic jacket, or a pair of high-waisted pants with a simple white t-shirt.

Dress for yourself, and not for the others - and especially not for the men! Just be yourself and make sure your style reflects your own personality. This way you’ll be a lot more attractive than by wearing revealing clothes which don’t represent you as a person (and in which you probably don’t feel comfortable).

Take good care of your general aspect (hair, nails, skin).

Believe in your own style, regardless how much (or less) the others like it. Wear your outfits with pride. In the end, you’ll only admire and follow one fashion icon: yourself.

Trendy Hats That Will Make You Fashionable This Summer

trendy summer hats

Summer is the season when all women want to show how beautiful and fashionable they are. But clothes are not the only ones that take part in forming one’s style. Accessories are also extremely important - no outfit can be complete without a trendy bag, necklace or bracelet. During summer, you have to cover your head to avoid getting a sunstroke. A hat or bonnet might become the perfect accessory to show your style and express your personality.

These days, the latest trend are hats made of straws. A must have in your wardrobe is a black straw hat with wide edges and a rounded vertex girded with a band. This is one of the most fashionable hats this summer. While black is very popular, you can also choose any other dark color that would match better with your clothes. If you plan a trip to the beach and you know you’ll wear a light dress, pick a white hat and you’ll look perfect.

Another fashionable head accessory are caps. They go very well with sporty clothes or jeans, but you have to pick them very carefully. While men are into the “dirty” style and should choose washed pigment-dyed caps, women are suggested brightly colored caps with flowers. Such a cap is guaranteed to add charm to your appearance and make you look trendy, while staying casual.

Any real lady should have a bonnet. An original bonnet will make you stand out and complete your style better than any other accessory. Choose large bonnets of any color, decorated with flowers and bands - they are always trendy.

If you find it difficult to find a hat or a bonnet that fits your face shape or your style, an original (and practical) way to cover your head is by wearing a turban. This season turbans are still very fashionable. You can choose any material and tie it up any way you like, as it goes well with any outfit and it creates a personal style.

Crocheted hats are also very popular. However, there’s one small problem with them - they are rather hard to find original crocheted hats in shops. If you buy those that are not made by hand, you might notice other people wearing the same model, and you don’t want that, do you? You should try to find an originally designed one or, even better, if you know how to crochet - make one yourself! That way, you’ll be complimented not only for the hat, but also for your creativity and hard work!

This summer is the perfect time to start wearing hats or bonnets, because no matter what model you choose, you will look trendy. Feel free to experiment with various materials, shapes and prints. This season, being fashionable means being original.
